Research Links There are numerous useful websites that provide good resources for research, including those below. Research relating to Vocational Education in Schools and its impact on
the outcomes for young people.
The Dusseldorp Skills Forum has a series of articles on the theme of “Realizing Australia’s Commitment to Young People."
The best study which follows the impact of schooling on the study and working lives of young people in Australia can be found at the Australian Council for Educational Research. The study is called the “Longitudinal Surveys of Australian Youth (LSAY)”. University of Ballarat - Brimbank Melton LLEN in partnership with University of Ballarat conducted research in 2009 into the factors that influence young people in their decision to either take-up, or not take-up Tertiary studies when they leave school. Of particular interest are the reasons why a significant number of students who successfully applied for a Tertiary placement (in either a university or TAFE course) chose to then reject that offer. The research was greatly assisted by the cooperation of each school in the Melton–Moorabool LGAs through the provision of data, and the willingness of young school leavers to participate in focus groups. The research study explores the ways and means by which partners the region can improve the prospects for its young people through encouraging an increase in the uptake of Tertiary studies. The full report is available for download.
