CHALLENGE Project:

The purpose of the CHALLENGE (Combining HOPE And Life Learning to Enable New Growth and Engagement) Program is to design and implement a program based on the existing Careers HOPE Program, which addresses the high level of disengagement* amongst young people from both Brimbank City Council and Melton Shire. The program works with young people aged 15-16years, or in Year 10 at school, and is available to both students enrolled at school and those currently not involved in formal education, training or employment.

Working in partnership with agencies currently working with ’at risk’ young people, the program will involves three key phases:

  1. Education phase
  2. A week-long camp designed to look at teamwork, cooperative learning and communication skills
  3. Re-Engagement phase

The aim of this program is to re-engage all participants in some form of employment, education or training upon program conclusion. Highlights for 2006:

  • School based workshops continue to run successfully.
  • Volunteer personal development workshops continue.
  • Week-long camp (held at Catherine’s Creek campsite) was successful
  • Three disengaged* young people continue to show a strong commitment to the program.
